St Richard's mourn popular pupil

STAFF and pupils alike were in tears on Tuesday as St Richard's Catholic College came to terms with the tragic death of a pupil.

Year 8 student Joshua Ingamells, 12, was found dead in bed at his home at Fairlight Road, Hastings on Tuesday morning by his father.

It is believed he was killed as he slept by leaking carbon monoxide fumes from a central heating boiler.

Joshua, an enthusiastic all-round sportsman, was the second youngest of five children.

His devastated parents, Graham and Margaret, and three of their family, were being comforted this week at the Pebsham home of Graham's brother, Paul, and his wife at Pebsham.

In a family statement Graham and Margaret said: "We are too distressed to talk to you at this time at the lost of our treasured son, Joshua. He was a gentle, sensitive and bright boy, much loved by everyone who knew him."

Church leaders Kathy and Glen Khan added: "Joshua loved God. He loved his family and he loved life."

St Richard's College principal Tony Campbell issued a letter to all parents on Tuesday: "This morning we received the sad news of the death of one of our Year 8 pupils, Joshua Ingamells. His death was the result of a tragic accident at home.

"Joshua was a happy pupil and a popular companion who had many friends in the college. He will be sadly missed by all the community.

"The news of Joshua's death has come as a great shock. I have spoken to all the Year 8 classes and the rest of the management team have supported the remaining years.

"Every effort has been made to support pupils and staff. Counselling services are available so do let me know if your son or daughter is in need of these."

Mr Campbell said a service was held this week for Joshua and his family. He asked the college community to join him in extending prayerful support and sympathy to Mr and Mrs Ingamells and their family.

The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held to establish how Joshua died.
