Spotlight shines on volunteering

VOLUNTARY and community groups from throughout East Sussex converged on Bexhill on Saturday afternoon to showcase their aims and activities.

The event, held at the De La Warr Pavilion, was staged as part of National Volunteers’ Week.

A key element was to highlight current opportunities for voluntary work suitable for people with a range of interests and skills. Sarah Hodgetts, county volunteering development co-ordinator, said: “Volunteering has so much to offer.

“It is important that we take advantage of opportunities like this to inspire others to get involved.”

The open afternoon was backed by drop-in sessions provided through the mobile library service, with volunteering support officers on hand to talk to people in villages and outlying areas about ways in which they can help.

Anyone who has time and skills to spare, but who was unable to attend the De La Warr Pavilion exhibition or to catch the mobile library service in their area, can find out more about volunteering opportunities by telephoning 01323 301757 or logging on to: www.vces.org.uk
