Special needs students included in Scarlette's new album

Singer songwriter Scarlette is putting on special performances for young people in Chichester and Bognor Regis

The 34-year-old music teacher, whose music has appeared on BBC Radio 2’s playlist, is keen to involve students with special needs in her latest record.

She will be at St Anthony’s School during the day, then at Folk on the Coast at Seasons in Bognor Regis in the evening.

Scarlette, whose real name is Karen Barrow, said: “This is a unique opportunity to work together with young people to produce something truly special.

“The young people we work with during these daytime sessions will go on a journey and it will be a privilege to share the journey with them.

“When these young people are supported, allowed to have a go rather than being told ‘no’ or ‘you can’t’, there’s no telling how far they can go.

“The sessions will be a School Of Rock taster and we will be recording the young people to create a nationwide Scarlette choir to go on my latest record.”

Scarlette is an SEN (special education needs) teacher in Welwyn, Hertfordshire. Her tour to promote her new album, Attack Of The 6 Ft Woman, is taking in SEN schools alongside traditional venues, chosen for their ease of disability access.

She will be accompanied by Ed Goodale, a singer on the autistic spectrum who has an EP out in spring, and the tour is supported by the National Autistic Society.

The new album, due out in May, was recorded in Los Angeles, Maida Vale and Crouch End with producer Paul Simm and composer/arranger Tolga Kashiff.

It features Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow) on bass and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello, Arctic Monkeys, Squeeze, Lucinda Williams) on drums.

The title track is about ‘drugs and addiction, affairs, lies and manipulation, the undercurrents of our world that people don’t want to admit to but love to gossip about’.

Scarlette explains that the 6ft woman is her sinister shadow and her own worst enemy.
