Sparkling week for Wick community

WICK Week was once more a gem of an event, and the jewel in the crown was a treasure hunt which had all ages searching for clues.

Traders' chairman Roger Arthurs set Wick residents on a brain-teasing trail round shops and businesses, with dozens taking up the challenge before the closing date tomorrow (Thursday, August 27).

All those taking part will now know much more about their community, another positive spin-off from last week's busy programme of activities, which could honestly claim to cater for all ages.

Although co-ordinated by Littlehampton Town Council, Wick Week gave local groups the chance to show what they could do, and they grasped it with both hands.

"It's been really good. Most of the events have been well supported, and all the favourites, Wick Idol, the quiz night and the Fun House play scheme were very well supported," said Rosie Parfitt, community resources officer for the town council.

Backing from the Arun Neighbourhood Network boosted events for older people, while for the youngsters, the Cuddle Me Farm at the Wickbourne Centre on Friday gave the under-sixes an opportunity to dote on small animals, older children could enjoy the Fun House and Inspire Out and About activities and the Keystone Centre's X-Treme sessions.

A junior five-a-side tournament at Wick Football Club on Saturday morning, an open air church service at Heo Green in the afternoon, and Texas Hold 'em Poker, back at the football club in the evening, where the winner took home 120, rounded off this year's Wick Week.
