Society honours birdman Bob

A SEAFORD man was recognised by the Sussex Ornithological Society for his outstanding effort to conservation work and wildlife monitoring on Sussex nature reserves.

Robert Edgar (pictured) received the society's Stonechat Award for long service at the annual conference held at Clair Hall in Haywards Heath.

Bob has been an active member of the society for 35 years. He has monitored wader populations in Chichester Harbour for more than 25 years and has been a member of the society's scientific committee for more than 20 years.

He has contributed chapters to two of the society's books in addition to writing numerous accounts of bird species for the annual Sussex bird report.

Clive Dickson, for the society, said: 'It is the unstinting efforts of Bob and people like him that have helped to keep a check on Sussex bird populations.'
