Shock closure of nursing home two days after Christmas

They were given just 28 days’ notice on Friday of the closure of the Walberton Care Home, formerly Walberton Place, by owners Prestige Care Group Ltd, just over two years after the company took it over following the collapse of the Southern Cross chain of homes.

Prestige’s decision set families and West Sussex County Council staff on a frantic search for new accommodation for the home’s 25 elderly residents, a search made all the more poignant by the closeness of Christmas and residents having to leave what many of them considered to be their ‘home-from-home’.
