EASTER LILIES: It is time to order your lilies in memory of loved ones to decorate the church at Easter. These will be £2 each and can be ordered by phoning Sylvia on 870688 or Margaret on 870808. Envelopes are also available in church if you would rather collect one from there. All names will be included on the roll of honour which will be on display in church over the Easter period

COFFEE MORNING AND MINI MARKET

The next coffee morning and mini market in aid of St John the Baptist will be in the village hall on Thursday March 3 from 10 to 11.30am. All the usual stalls will be on offer; home baked goodies, plants, bric a brac, books and jigsaw puzzles. Are you new to the village? Do go along and meet new friends, you will be made very welcome. There is no entry charge with coffee, tea, fruit and cheese scones at just £1. For more details or if you should require transport, please contact 870808

MEET YOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT: I think this is going to be a little bit more interesting than even before now that the decision for a the referendum on Europe is coming up in June. Do not miss your opportunity to attend the open meeting to meet your MP, Huw Merriman, in Sedlescombe Village Hall at 6.00 pm to 7.30pm on Friday March 4. He will speak of his first 9 months as your representative in Parliament and be available to answer your questions on the subjects that most concern you. Join us for a lively debate. All are welcome so please come along

MOTHERING SUNDAY: There will be a Family service at St John the Baptist parish church on Sunday March 6 at 10.30am which will be very special, not just because it is in honour of mothers but because we welcome All Saints puppets from All Saints church, Heathfield who will be joining in to lead the worship. This is a shortened service with no eucharist, allowing time for refreshment and a chat afterwards. As is traditional, there will be posies of flowers for mums attending. Everyone is welcome, come on children, bring your mum, grannies, aunties, dad, and granddads on this special day

SEDLESCOMBE SPORTS ASSOCIATION: The association is in need of a volunteer to join their small committee taking on the role of secretary. Thanks must go to Derek Wright who has performed this role so well over the past few years, but he is due to leave the village soon and needs to relinquish his post. This is in no way an onerous job, in fact the committee meet in the pub around three to four times a year, to discuss the running of the sports field and facilities. If you think you may be interested and would like to arrange to discuss what is involved then please contact me, David Torrance (treasurer) on 870344.

QUIZ IN VILLAGE HALL: There is to be a quiz to raise money for the Friendship Club on March 11 at 6.45 for 7. You are invited to make up a team for further information or to book please contact Ralph on 870223. There will be refreshments provided during the evening along with some interesting questions!

SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT GARDENING SOCIETY: Sedlescombe & District Garden Society (SDGS) will be holding their first major event of the year on Wednesday March 16. TV personality Tom Hart Dyke, heir to the family seat of Lullingstone Castle in Eynsford, Kent will be giving an illustrated talk on his vast horticultural experiences. Tom is an English horticulturist, author and plant hunter who presented an episode of The Great British Garden Revival shown on BBC2 in 2013. In 2000 whilst hunting for rare orchids in Columbia, Tom was kidnapped by guerrillas and held captive for 9 months. On his return he created the World Garden of Plants located at Lullingstone. It contains approximately 8,000 species of plants, many collected by Tom from their native environments. The story of the creation was featured in a BBC2 6-episode series “Save Lullingstone Castle” in 2006. The event will be free for members but we intend opening up the talk to non-members at a cost of £5.00 per person. N.B. an annual family membership to the Society only costs £10.00 so why not join and take advantage of a full and varied programme of events for 2016.

The event will take place at Sedlescombe Village hall and the doors will open at 6.30 p.m. for a 7.00 p.m. start. Refreshments will be provided as well as a raffle with some really good prizes. A lot of interest has already been shown for this event, so to avoid disappointment, please reserve your tickets by contacting Sue Parsons on 01580 831996.

SEDLESCOMBE LIBRARY SERVICE: Try to remember to use your local lending library here in the heart of Sedlescombe and available to us all. Every Tuesday volunteers man the library in committee room 2 of the village hall from 1.30 to 2.30pm. Save carrying home books from Battle or Hastings and use your local library instead please or we may find it will not be available in the future.

SEDLESCOMBE‘S GOT TALENT: A new date has been arranged for this event – Friday May 20 in the village hall, We expect to see singers , dancers, jugglers , musicians , in fact all types of entertainment are welcome to join in from Sedlescombe and the surrounding area. Places will be limited to allow for a fair opportunity for all taking part. There is no fee to enter and there will be a £100 awarded to the winner and runner up prizes too. Professional sound system and engineer will be available. If you would like to take part then please contact Jean on 01424 882438 for further details, timings and to book your place.

CONQUEST HOSPITAL- A GREAT MEETING PLACE!: It was with great pleasure that whilst accompanying my other half I was fortunate enough to meet up with another village voice writer there. As village voices we tap away on our keyboards but never get to meet our other counterparts so it was quite enlightening and a pleasure to find and meet an actual person like myself doing exactly the same thing in another village. So thank you Conquest hospital and team not just for the excellent care but also for the meeting place, for “care in the community“!
