Seafront Festival set to be the best yet

THIS weekend's 10th anniversary Littlehampton Seafront Festival looks like being the best yet and has loads of events and attractions across Saturday and Sunday and the best thing is...it's free.

There are too many events to list in full but programmes are available from many local shops including David O. Jones sports shop, The Cabin and Garrett's newsagents and the Gazette office.

Here are some of the main events happening this weekend.

There will be national power boat racing just off the seafront on both days with high-powered boats racing at breakneck speeds as well as sailing races and displays on the River Arun.

A sea fishing competition has been organised by the Littlehampton Angling Club and a crab fishing competition for children takes place on both days with great prizes for the winners.

Arun Aqua Youth will be giving two junior dinghy demonstrations on the river and the Littlehampton Sea Cadets will be holding pulling races on both days.

But the fun isn't restricted to the water. For all those land-lubbers who don't want to get their feet wet, there are a host of activities and events on the seafront.

A visit from Hastings 1066 Harley Davidsons and a vintage car display on Saturday and Sussex Gold Wings motorbike club on Sunday are sure to rev up the festivities.

Fine cheeses and wines will be on sale across the weekend at the French market and there will be loads of stalls, a beer tent, a special rainbow marquee for children and lots more on the western green.

The coastguard tower is open to the public on both days from 10am until noon and the RNLI lifeboat station is open from 10.30am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday night's celebrations culminate with a party on the western green on the seafront with a concert by the Southdown Concert Band from 5pm-7pm followed by live music from New Eclipse from 7pm-8pm and then DJ compere Paul Young from Spirit FM playing music until 10pm when a huge firework display will begin.
