Scouts' coffee morning

Pledging money to help the 9th Bexhill Scouts isn't enough for the residents of Grosvenor Park - they want to do more.

They have held a fundraising coffee morning will be held to show support for the scouts who lost their headquarters to the devastating fire in Wainwright Road.

"It's about the old helping the young," said Chris Cox, entertainments officer at Grosvenor Park in Brookfield Road.

"We were going to pledge money but we thought this was a more tangible way of helping and would involve more people".

Chris said there was great support from residents and staff for a number of reasons.

"It's because it is local, and because lots of our residents have been scouts or guides, and so there is a certain affinity with the movement...I was a 9th Bexhill mum myself many moons ago.

"It was just a terrible thing to happen. The residents feel the same thing, that people should try and help. The scouts are highly regarded, and when something like that happens which is not their fault then you really do feel for them.

"So we wanted to do something, but being a nursing home there is a limit to the amount you can do.

"The scouts themselves are involved...they are doing games and manning the stalls, being on the door and just being a presence."
