Royal Pavilion ice rink takes shape

The ice rink, which returns to Brighton for its eighth year, will open on November 4 to January 14.

This year, creators of the rink said they are making it a ‘greener’ place to skate by using a bespoke rink plant floor which maximises energy efficiency in creating the ice.

Shella Parkin, CEO of Laine Ltd, creator of the rink, said: “We are really excited to be back for our eighth year and we’re working hard to get everything just right, especially when it comes to making sure we are as environmentally conscious as possible.

"We will be building the rink floor, restaurant and bar structures from Monday (October 16) and laying the first layer of ice around a week later – from when it should start to be recognisable as the ice rink people know and love!

"We can’t wait to welcome everyone to what has become one of Brighton’s best loved Christmas traditions!”

The 880-square metre main rink is set to offer plenty of space for more confident skaters and the separate 130-square metre beginners’ rink with penguin skate aids provides a safe area for younger skaters to build their confidence.

There will also be a rink-side Bar & Kitchen, and the 130-seater restaurant will offer snacks and main meals, including stone baked pizzas, as well as local ale and a new range of craft beers, 14 different gins, and mulled wine or cider.

Tickets cost from £10 for full price tickets (aged 12 and over), £7 for juniors (under 12) and the one-hour skate times run from 10am to 9.15pm daily.

Club Rinkidinks (daily, second session of the day, 11.15am to 12.15pm excluding December 21 to January 1) offers children under five the chance to skate for free when accompanied on the ice by an adult paying full price.
