Rotarians welcome District Governor

MORE than 60 Rotarians, their ladies and guests dined at Battle Golf Club to welcome District Governor Denis Spiller and his wife to a gala evening.

The event began with the induction of Annette Hardy and Robin Poll into the fellowship of Rotary.

District Governor Denis said he was honoured to perform the ceremony.

Proposers were Rotarian Martin Mears (Annette Hardy) and Rotarian Peter Stiles (Robin Poll), who introduced the candidates.

The Object of Rotary was read by Rotarian Peter Stiles.

The programme continued with the presentation of Battle Classic Car Show proceeds to nominated charities - Battle Guides (Vicki Cook), Sarah Lee Trust (Hadley Pollard and Janet Pollard), Sidley Young Persons Centre (John Izzard and Julie Wilcox).

Each charity was handed a cheque for 1,000 by the District Governor.

The penultimate presentation by the District Governor was the award of a Paul Harris Fellowship to Past President Rotarian Rod Farrow, whose membership began in 1985.

He has served as a member and chairman of all Rotary committees. Clearly service within the community-at-large was worthy of high commendation through commitment, diligence and a desire to offer Service Above Self.

Denis said he and his wife Penny were delighted to share an evening of intense and memorable activity.

The club had achieved in significant areas of Rotary service and the international Kenya project was heralded throughout District and beyond.
