This is the fifth Annual Fair at the Church Rooms in Fair Lane and is one not to be missed. The organiser, a local artist Roger Hill, originally held the show as a one-man exhibition to raise funds for St Mary’s Church. Over the years many other local artists have joined him and since 2011 there are now 20+ exhibitors with a wealth of talent from the village and surrounding areas. These artists encompass all mediums and also include pottery, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, woodcarving and jewellery. From modest beginnings this exhibition has grown to become an important and eagerly awaited event in the Robertsbridge Diary. All profits from this show go towards the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of St Mary’s Church.

St Mary’s Salehurst: will be holding Holy Communion on Sunday 30th at the Mission Room at 9am and Matins in Salehurst at 11am.

There is now a face book page for the church, it can be found under St Mary the Virgin, Salehurst. All dates for up and coming events are listed here as well as some pieces to reflect on. Well worth a visit if you have access to a computer.

Community Church: formerly held at the Chapel on the High pavement. Now has Sunday Service at the Youth Centre at 10.30am. On a Thursday the coffee morning is held at The Hub, which is where the Post Office used to be (next to Boots). This starts from 9.15am, there is a Prayer meeting held on Friday’s at 10am. There are Christian books and cards for sale and there are wooden craft items as well which are supplied by the Kenward Trust.

The closing service for the URC: is being held on Saturday 5th September at 2.30pm in the Chapel. A Memory Book is being compiled of the happy times shared at the Chapel. This will be displayed at The Hub. If you would like to contribute any written memories or photographs please post via the letterbox at The Hub.

Robertsbridge Bonfire Society – is holding Badge Night at Robertsbridge Club tonight Friday 28th August. This is the last chance to pay membership for this year. If no subs paid there will be no Bonfire Season for you this year.

Next weekend: is the Flower and Small Animal Show at Robertsbridge Hall on Sunday 6th September. Schedules are available from Sandie at the Floral Boutique. There are classes for everyone to take part in. This is the last fundraiser before Bonfire Night so please support, as all funds are needed to make our event the usual spectacular night we are used to.

Robertsbridge Club: is presenting `The Southern Blues Kings` tomorrow evening Saturday 29th August at 9pm. This is to be an extravaganza of Jump, Jive, Swing and Blues. Members have free entry and guests are to pay just £3.00.

Robertsbridge Age Concern: there will be no meeting this week, as it is Bank Holiday Monday. Meetings will resume on Monday 7th September at Robertsbridge Hall at 10.30am – 2.15pm.

The Age Concern held a Birthday Party for Margaret Bryson one of the founder members, to celebrate her 90th birthday. She was treated to a summer lunch complete with birthday cake, flowers and a visit from the Battle Observer photographer. Members and volunteers thanked Margaret for her time and energy invested in the club over the years.

DARTS: This Sunday[30th] is the very popular ‘Open Pairs Darts Knock Out’ at Robertsbridge Club with registration at 7.30p.m. This is a fun evening for all whether you come and play or just watch in pleasant company with cheap drinks and friendly atmosphere. There will also be a raffle so enjoy the bank holiday weekend at The Club.

CRICKET: The Cooper Cup semi-finals and final are at the Cricket Ground from 10.30a.m. on Sunday[30th] where there will be a bar and food available all day, also a raffle so come and enjoy a day at this entertaining event.

STOOLBALL: Tuesday[18th] the Mixed team welcomed local rivals Brightling to The Clappers on an overcast evening. We batted first with Abigail Fifield[6] being bowled in the second over and Penny Clark[0] lasted just 3 balls before she was bowled however Keith Apps[39] and Lisa Fifield[17] steadied the innings with a 33 run partnership before Keith was caught. Josh Lewis[4] hit one ball before getting caught on his second and then skipper Richard Apps[61n.o.] carried his bat while Lisa was bowled and the next ball young Charlie Apps[0] was caught which bought in Clare Baker[5n.o.] to see the 10 overs out as we finished on 144-6. Brightling lost Marc[8] in the first over when Richard caught him from Abigail’[2-1-27] bowling and then Keith[2-5] had two caught & bowled with Mandy[5] first and then he had the dangerous Chiffer[3] caught with what must be the catch of the season low to his right. At 19-3 Brightling were on the back foot but a partnership of 25 between Lily[5] and Pete[32] was broken when Lily was run out which bought in skipper Sarah[33] who put on 32 before Pete was caught by Richard from the bowling of Graham Clark[1-14]. Rikki[21n.o.] joined Sara before she was caught by Lisa from Abigail’s bowling with the score on 121 with one over to go. Richard put everybody on the boundary for the last over which led to some good fielding to run out Sandra[1] which bought in Glenis[2n.o.] but The Bridge held on for a 10 run victory. The Mixed team hosted Crowhurst on Thursday[20th] with an opening partnership of 28 between Keith Apps[35] and Sarah Clark[14] before Sarah was bowled and then debutant Sophie Turner[4] was caught and Penny Clark[0] was bowled in the third over. Keith was caught in the 5th over with the score on 62-4 but a partnership of 58 between Clare Baker[17] and JJ Boast[51] steadied the innings before Clare was caught which bought in young Charlie Apps[2] who lasted 4 balls before being caught which saw skipper Richard Apps[0n.o.] join JJ to see the 10 overs out and finish on 136-6. Sarah[2-1-20] opened the bowling and took a wicket with her second ball aided by a catch from Richard and then some good fielding resulted in a run out but Dave[34] and Jacky[15] steadied the innings until Dave was run out with 55 on the board. Gwylm[22] joined Jacky to put on 28 before he was caught by JJ from Richard’[1-19] bowling and then more good fielding saw Jacky run out. Crowhurst needed 42 off the last over but they failed despite a quick 34n.o. by Jason and 1n.o. by Lucy as they ended on 128-6. Sunday[6th September] is our Ladies Tournament at The Cricket Ground from 10.30a.m. where there will be soft drinks and food available also a raffle to raise funds. This is always a fun day so why not pop down and watch the oldest Sussex game played in pleasant surroundings.

FOOTBALL : The season kicks off on Saturday 5th September 2015 when both teams are away. In the evening we are holding a ‘Race Night’ at Robertsbridge Club from 7.30p.m. This is a free event and is a lot of fun where you may see pig racing and other unusual animals racing so whether you want to bet or not just come along and join in the fun.
