Road havoc coming to an end

DISRUPTIVE road works lasting two years are coming to an end.

A water improvement scheme which has caused road closures and traffic delays in Bexhill South East Water will be completed in July.

Diversions and temporary traffic lights caused by the project have become an everyday nuisance in the town since the scheme began in 2001 and families have had to put up with their water being cut off at regular intervals.

South East Water has been cleaning and relining its drinking water pipes, many of which were decades old and badly corroded, to improve quality, pressure and, it says, save money in the long run by preventing leakages.

The final leg of the scheme is to 'rehabilitate' some 420 metres of pipe in Sackville Road and London Road and South East Water warns both will cause traffic delays.

The Sackville Road project, which will involve temporary traffic lights, starts on Tuesday and is due to finish on May 16.

In London Road the work will involve a diversion for motorists and is expected to last for a fortnight from July 9.
