Residents want action on danger road in Goring

"IT could be one of my children next" '“ that's the fear for Wendy Stripp who was, this week, having the family cat cremated after it was run over and killed in Goring.

Wendy, who lives in Ilex Way, said she and her three young children were left devastated after their cat Smokey was found dead in the road last Tuesday (September 18).

"We are totally gutted about it," said Wendy, 37. "The driver didn't even stop '“ it is so cruel. It is down to a speeding problem in Ilex Way and Sea Lane '“ it has become a rat-run."

Wendy said her children '“ Louise, eight, Olivia, five, and Luke, two '“ were mortified to discover 15-month-old Smokey, a Burmese/tabby grey cat, had died.

Yet Wendy feared Smokey would not be the last casualty on the road.

She said: "It is only a matter of time before someone is killed.

"This time it was my cat, but next time it could be one of my children.

"Something needs to be done. There have been several accidents and I and other residents want to see the road changed. We would really like speed humps."

County council spokesman Nigel Galloway said: "We will obviously look closely at what the residents tell us and the concerns they have about rat running."

He pointed out Ilex Way and Sea Lane had no recorded injury accidents in the last three years.

In response, Wendy said: "I'm totally appalled. Why should we have to wait for an injury accident."

Wendy has collected 15 letters from other residents calling for action
