RAFA success with Wings Appeal

More than £3,000 was raised by the Bexhill branch of the Royal Air Force Association during Wings Fortnight.

The total achieved was not as much as last year but branch president Ken Igglesden is pleased nevertheless.

The total is made up of a number of collections - three days of volunteers standing outside Sainsbury's with their tins resulted in 1,380, while the street collection on Wings Day itself brought in another 1,229, of which 764 came from the efforts of 2262 (Bexhill) Squadron, Air Training Corps.

Ken commented: "These youngsters did extremely well, I was very, very pleased. Twelve of them worked all day to raise this money."

House-to-house collection this year raised 200, while the total collected during the Battle of Britain service at St Peter's church was 160.

Ken said: "The total with other money still coming in was over 3,000. It is not as much as last year - we are 1,000 down - but it is still a lot of money considering how things are at the moment. That is how I feel about it.

"I would like to congratulate the Bexhill public and thank them for their generosity in these hard times. It was still very good."
