PUTTING IT DOWN IN BLACK AND WHITE

Shops will be going mono for this year's Lewes Live Literature festival which starts on October 26.

The winning shopkeeper will win lunch for two at Pelham Circa restaurant, including wine, plus a pair of tickets for any event in the festival.

'The idea for the competition came about when we were talking to Hilary Moore, the florist, about doing the festival flowers,' said organiser Jane Zara.

'We wanted the festival's black and white theme to have a visual presence in the town and this seemed like a good way of doing it.'

Competition judges will be local artist Lindsey McGown and MP Norman Baker.

Windows should be completed by closing time on Friday (21st) and judging will take place over that weekend.

This year's 10th festival includes appearances from legendary performer Ken Campbell, poet John Agard, writer Charles Shaar Murray, cultural critic Bonnie Greer, writers Hilary Mantel and Kaye Umansky, folk legend Shirley Collins, Glasgow poet Tom Leonard, ex-Pere Ubu front man David Thomas and Mexican musician Gibran Cervantes.
