Prompt action after pipe bursts

Prompt action by Bognor Regis fire crews limited the damage caused by a burst pipe at one of the town's schools.

Red Watch arrived quickly at Laburnum Grove Primary School when headteacher Pip Otton reported the emergency.

They pumped the flood water from the school's foyer and office and helped remove equipment from danger. The ten firefighters spent about an hour and 40 minutes at the school in Laburnum Grove after Mrs Otton raised the alarm just before 6.20pm. She was in the school finishing her work when the emergency began.

'We had quite a lot of water gushing in quite quickly,' she said.

'But the fire brigade turned up very quickly and did everything they could. They were excellent.'

Mrs Otton said the school was working normally on Tuesday because the damage from the flooding was so limited.

No classrooms were affected and the flooding areas had started to dry out.
