Bolnore Road in Haywards Heath is deteriorating, and resident John Hillyard said it is due to ‘large trucks carrying building materials for the Crest development’.

A pothole first developed a few weeks ago, and then another on the other side of the road.

Mr Hillyard explained he was informed by West Sussex County Council that the road is private, so repair is the responsibility of the developer, not them. Crest Nicholson has been informed of the damage.

Mr Hillyard said: “I think this has become a hazard and a road safety issue, some action is needed!”

“This road has been damaged by large trucks carrying building materials for the Crest development.”

He added that all the developers ‘so far have only placed signs and a half barrier to prevent cars from driving into it’ in response to complaints.

A spokesperson for Crest Nicholson South said the company has taken necessary action to repair potholes on Bolnore Road and will continue to monitor the situation.

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council confirmed: “The section of road where the hole is located is private.

“It is the responsibility of the property owners to arrange repairs.”
