Since the lockdown was enforced, Arun District Council has relaxed day-to-day parking enforcement with no tickets being issued to drivers parking safely and considerately.

Arun carries out the parking enforcement on behalf of the West Sussex County Council who have requested that enforcement should now be re-introduced on all parking restrictions.

The council has already re-introduced charging for car parks it runs. Tickets will therefore be issued for all on and off-street parking contraventions.

The appeal process will be in operation if anyone wishes to dispute a parking ticket due to their circumstances.

Samantha Staniforth, Arun’s cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: “Due to lockdown being eased by central government, we are experiencing an increase in traffic to the district, further encouraged by the recent lovely weather.

“We have concerns that if the relaxed approach continues, we may see our roads becoming blocked by inconsiderate parking. We need to keep our roads clear and safe, so we feel it’s the right time to re-introduce parking enforcement for the benefit of both residents and visitors alike.
