Lewes MP welcomes £2million funding to support cultural assets

Lewes MP Maria Caulfield has welcomed £2million of funding from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund to support four cultural assets in the Lewes constituency.

The cultural assets in the Lewes constituency set to receive funding are: Bluebell Railway PLC £727,200, Culver Archaeological Project £12,000, Sussex Archaeological Society £497,500, and Wave Leisure Trust Ltd £850,000.

Through the £1.57billion Culture Recovery Fund, the government has shown it is ‘Here for Culture’ in all kinds of communities, Mrs Caulfield said, making sure our most-loved performing arts, heritage sites, independent cinemas, music venues and museums can weather the impact of coronavirus and come back even stronger.

Mrs Caulfield said “Many of our cultural assets including our most precious heritage sites have been put in danger by the necessary restrictions that have been put in place because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The government wants to ensure that these cultural assets will not only survive these difficult times but will be able to come back stronger than ever.

“This funding of over £2million from the Cultural Recovery Fund for the Lewes constituency will help ensure that these much loved organisations are able to continue to be provide for the local community and tourists alike.”
