Flats planned for Horsham town site

The development proposed by Saxon Weald at Winterton Court, off New Street, will include 25 one-bedroom flats, 40 two-bedroom flats and four five-bedroom houses.

Existing buildings at the site, which housed around 30 pensioners until last year, will be demolished, the Horsham-based housing association has proposed.

The plans also include associated car parking, bicycle storage, landscaping and external works, served by altered access onto Standings Court.

Winterton Court currently comprises of 27 studio and one-bedroom bungalows.

The application number is DC/15/0154 and it can be viewed on HDC’s website.

In March 2014, the County Times reported that residents of Winterton Court were to be rehoused and their homes demolished to make way for around 60 new affordable homes.

Saxon Weald’s chief executive David Standfast broke the news in person.

He said: “Obviously our news caused some shock and worry and a few residents were very against the idea.

“However, we were given a very fair hearing. Many had guessed that something was happening as we had left two homes vacant for several months, and of course Standings Court has already been redeveloped.

“Our team stayed to talk to residents individually after the initial announcement and we had good natured conversations.”

He continued: “We have a member of staff dedicated to helping older people to move home and she made appointments with everyone to talk to them individually about their preferences for rehousing.

“We have reserved bungalows and ground floor flats in Horsham that may be of interest to Winterton Court residents and they also have the option of returning to Winterton Court and living in a new home on the redeveloped site.”
