In an application to Rother District Council, funeral director Arthur C Towner Ltd proposes to extend its premises into the neighbouring property at 3 Albert Road.

Currently a residential property, Arthur C Towner says it would renovate both the outside and inside of the town centre building as part of the proposals.

In a statement submitted as part of the application, a spokesman for the business said: “ The acquisition of 3 Albert Road is an opportunity to expand the established existing business and employment opportunity.

“The application site benefits from being close to the town centre of Bexhill. The proposed use is commensurate with established commercial use in the immediate area.

“The responsibilities of an established business will ensure the long term use and maintenance of the site and buildings in this prominent location.

“In conclusion we consider that the proposed change of use and associated works will provide appropriate use of an existing building and trust that the planning authority will find these proposals acceptable.”

According to the funeral director’s application, the business has outgrown its existing premises and hopes to make more room by expanding into the neighbouring building.

An existing extension to the building would be demolished as part of the proposals, while some damaged windows would be removed and replaced.

For further details of the proposals see application reference RR/2020/670/P on the Rother District Council website.
