Sussex Police is searching for 48-year-old Derek Passmore, who absconded from Ford Prison on Saturday, June 22, and has not been seen since.

Passmore was serving a life sentence for the murder of a man in Hampton, Middlesex, in October 1996.

He was supposed to come back to Ford in the evening following a scheduled day release.

Detective Chief Inspector David Wardley-Wilkins said: “Passmore is not currently assessed as a direct physical threat to the public, hence his being in an open prison, but in view of the seriousness of his offence, and the fact that so far there has been no sighting of him, we seek public assistance in reporting any information that may help us to find him.

“He has had connections in Maidstone, in South West London including Twickenham, Sutton and Kingston-upon-Thames, and elsewhere in the South East, although he has no specific association with Sussex.

“The Metropolitan Police in particular are making active enquiries to find him.”

Passmore, who is described as 6ft 1in, of stocky build, with brown hair and hazel eyes, also had a goatee beard when last seen
