Police helicopter search for hit and run driver

THE police helicopter was scrambled to help search for a driver who fled from the scene of a crash in Bodiam.

Just after 11pm last Friday (September 30) a 4x4 vehicle, heading towards Hawkhurst on the B2244, was involved in a head-on collision with a Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the 4x4 fled the scene and ran into nearby woodland.

Police searched for the man on the ground before the Force’s helicopter was called to assist in the hunt.

The man, described as 6ft tall with fair hair, was not found.

Extensive damage was caused to both vehicles but the driver of the Corsa, a 19-year-old man from London, escaped injury.
