Police filming to curb anti-social behaviour

BEXHILL police have a new weapon against anti-social behaviour.

Three head cameras, capable of recording up to four hours of continuous footage each, will be used by Bexhill's Neighbourhood Police Officers to catch evidence of offences on camera.

The cameras attach to the officer's hat and record footage in colour during the day and black and white at night.

Footage of youths caught either underage drinking or behaving in an anti-social manner will be shown to parents and guardians to foster cooperation in reducing disorderly conduct.

Other benefits of the Body Worn Video system include access to quality, real-time evidence of offences which will in turn help reduce paperwork following an arrest. Other divisions in Sussex have already been using the Body Worn Videos and have proved very successful in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Inspector James Scott of Rother Neighbourhood Police said: "The benefit is it's going to protect the Officers as well as protecting the people that we're dealing with, so everything is going to be dealt with fairly.

"We can actually record everything live time. We'll obtain the best evidence available and see the effect it's had on victims, too. We're going to get them out 24 hours a day."
