Police cash for air cadets

AIR cadets were given a £1,000 donation from Sussex Police.

The Hailsham 249 squadron received the money from the Police Property Act Fund.

The fund sells unclaimed goods and uses the money for charitable purposes.

Police sergeant Peter Hutchison gave a cheque to cadet sgt Tina Calvert.

Flt Lt Richard Munns, commanding officer, said new IT equipment would be built for the squadron.

He added: 'It is extremely satisfying to be recognised and supported by the local police authority, especially the kind words of support received from police sergeant Hutchison during the presentation,'

Sgt Hutchison told cadets he was impressed by their commitment and enthusiasm.

No 249 Squadron draws young people from Hailsham and surrounding parishes.

It is run by voluntary staff and the cadets meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Victoria Road, Hailsham.
