Photographs of Barnham flooding wanted

PHOTOGRAPHS of flooding around Barnham are wanted.

The evidence of the recurrence of the long-standing problem in the village, and those which surround it, are wanted by Eastergate parish councillor John Donabie.

Typical of the sights he is seeking is this shot of the infamous ‘sewage lagoon’ near the play area in Farnhurst Road on Monday.

“The manhole there was surcharging nine to ten inches in the air,” he said. “The manhole cover was being lifted into the air.

“We need scenes like these to show Southern Water that its works at Lidsey are not fit for purpose.”

The next meeting of Barnham Village Drainage Group has been co-incidentally arranged for Monday (June 18).

“Southern Water has said Lidsey works well in the summer but it acknowledges there can be problems in the winter,” he said.

“But what has happened this week shows we can get a lot of rain in the summer as well.”
