Permission given to move signal box from Barnham to Aldingbourne

Campaigners have received planning permission to move Barnham signal box to Aldingbourne.

Those seeking to preserve the 1911 wooden structure have been given the go-ahead by Arun District Council to site the building in the Olivers Meadow grounds of Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre.

The building will be used as a clubhouse and meeting place for Bognor Regis Model Railway Club. It already meets in the centre's grounds.

Supporters of the signal box hope to move it to the new position during September 12 and 13.

The signal box has stood at the western end of Barnham railway station's platform two for almost a century.

But it has been redundant since a new signalling centre outside the station was opened last November when the signal network was updated.
