The charity was set up to provide social activities for people with dementia and their carers, to attend together. Under normal circumstances, these include a monthly get together with activities and singing and dancing groups. They also offer gardening at the charity’s allotment, swimming at Motcombe Pool, cinema trips and outings.

With all activities on hold, there is concern those with dementia and their carers may have increases feelings of isolation and anxiety during the pandemic.

Like all charities, Memory Lane has had to change the way it works.

Carol McHale, from the charity, said, “We have had to change how we run our services.

“Instead of social groups which are obviously banned, we have started a weekly live singing session on Facebook.”

The session takes place on Wednesdays at 2pm.

Carol added, “We are also delivering activity packages to all people living with dementia and their carers. Something to keep them busy for a few hours.

“I am also ringing up members weekly and helping with whatever is needed.

“Information, advice, shopping, finding audio tapes for one member and generally just ensuring they are coping ok and not feeling too isolated.”
