Developers CALA Homes have become the first housebuilders to be given the go-ahead to start work on the first homes there.

The building firm is to begin the first phase of housebuilding on former agricultural land to the north of the A264. The houses will comprise a mix of 193 one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes, including 25 affordable properties.

Legal and General Homes have also submitted an application to start work on another 197 properties.

Outline planning permission was granted in 2018 for the 2,750-house estate, along with shops, community facilities, the new Bohunt Horsham School, a sports hub, business park, and pedestrian and cycle routes.

CALA Homes senior planning manager Ian Humble said: “We are delighted that Horsham District Council approved our reserved matters application for 193 homes at North Horsham, and to be the first new homes developer to be granted planning permission for this landmark site.

“We have worked closely and collaboratively with the master planners to create a high quality scheme that meets the needs and aspirations of future residents and the existing local community.

The CALA group was acquired by Legal & General, owners of the north Horsham land, In March 2018.
