Hastings teachers honoured in awards

Three Hastings teachers have been singled out for praise in the Sussex Teacher of the Year Awards.

Kelly Apps, from Sandown Primary School was Hastings Primary School Teacher of the Year.

Judges said: “Kelly has a knack for building pupils’ confidence and brings warmth and humour to each lesson, and the pupils have lots of fun while trying hard to achieve their best. Kelly makes every child feel special and capable of great things.”

Hastings teaching Assistant of the Year went to Emma Aird, of Baird Primary Academy, with Judges commenting: “Emma supports pupils with highly challenging needs and behaviours to ensure they receive an outstanding education.

“She spends her own time finding ways to support their emotional wellbeing. Emma’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of her pupils is truly admirable.”

Charlotte Williamson, of The St Leonards Academy was Hastings Secondary School Teacher of the Year.

Judges said: “Charlotte’s zeal for History and unwavering belief in every student is a winning formula.
