Dad delivers baby born in Eastbourne car park

Rhys and Natalie Jones were at home in The Avenue on the evening of May 6 when Natalie’s pregnancy pains started to kick in.
Rhys said they informed their midwife of the progress and remained in the house.

Hide AdEventually the couple, along with their four-year-old daughter Amisha, packed the car and set off to the Conquest hospital in Hastings.
Rhys said, “As I was driving along, my partner said the pain was getting unbearable so I phoned 999 and requested an ambulance.
“As I was on the phone to the 999 operator they asked if I could park in a location that was safe. My instant thought was the Crumbles between the old cinema and Frankie & Benny’s.”
As Rhys remained on the phone to the operator, he said he noticed the baby’s head was coming and Natalie had the urge to push. By 10.05pm the baby boy, now called Tyler, was born.

Hide AdRhys said, “I instantly found a dry cloth and started wiping his face and as I looked over I saw blue lights from the ambulance arriving. They took over and eventually moved Natalie and my new son to the ambulance.”
He said Amisha stayed in the back of the car, excited to meet her baby brother.
Rhys said Natalie and Tyler are both back at home and doing well.
The couple want to thank everyone who has wished them well and the ambulance crews for their ‘brilliant work’.
