Peak-time police numbers are doubled

POLICING at peak problem times in the town centre is being doubled.

The extra manpower is being made available through a force-wide shake-up in shift patterns.

The move means that, effectively, there are two police shifts on patrol in the town centre on Friday and Saturday nights.

The system came into force last weekend. This week Inspector James Scott of the Bexhill Neighbourhood Policing Team said that the initial result was a complete success.

He said: "The public are now going to have a lot of extra police on the streets of Bexhil.

"The new shift pattern means we are able to prioritise.

"The public can expect to see a high-visibility police presence in the town centre, tackling public place violence and anti-social behaviour."

The shift pattern review has been undertaken to ensure that the maximum police manpower is concentrated when and where it is needed most.
