Peace group meets

A PEACE group for people in Seaford and Newhaven met for the first time on Thursday last week. The initial idea came from the Seaford Quakers but anyone is welcome to join.

Ten people met at a house in Firle Close to establish the group.

Likely to be called SNAP '“ Seaford and Newhaven Action for Peace '“ it will campaign against the replacement of the UK's Trident nuclear weapons system, the war in Iraq and the potential conflict in Iran.

Lewes district and Seaford town councillor Ralph Taylor is also a Quaker. He said: 'Six of us will go to the No Trident Troops Out of Iraq demonstration on February 24 in London. We believe that Trident is expensive and unnecessary.

Nuclear missiles cannot be used to deal with terrorism and we need to find better, more constructive ways to resolve international disputes.'

The next meeting is planned for March 22 and anyone interested in joining should contact Nicki Barnes on 01323 490333 or email [email protected]
