Outgoing mayor's legacy will benefit every Irvine Unit patient

FOR the last act of her time as town mayor, Cllr Bridget George handed over a cheque worth £6,100 to the charity she supported during her time in office.

Alice Webster, head of adult services for the Irvine Unit of Bexhill Hospital, was on hand to collect the bumper payout, along with ex-Observer deputy editor and president of the Bexhill Hospital League of Friends, John Dowling (pictured).

Cllr George spoke of visiting the Irvine Unit when she first took up mayoral office, and her determination to improve the hospital by fundraising throughout the year.

Alice thanked the retiring mayor, saying: "I should like to add a big thank you to everyone who has supported this charity.

"The project has been a challenge over the past year and this money will benefit every patient who comes through the doors, and hopefully all the residents of Bexhill."
