Spare a thought for the Shoreham Centre

EVERYWHERE we go, we are being told how wonderful the new Ropetackle Centre is.

Yes, it is a lovely new building, with great new facilities and a super huge grant from Adur District Council.

But, hey, spare a thought for the Shoreham Centre, in Pond Road, which although it is an old building and receives a small grant from Adur council, still receives hundreds of people through its doors every week.

It is open seven days and nights every week, up until 11pm, with a huge variety of activities, from mum and baby clubs right through to over-60s groups.

I am hoping the Ropetackle will be a success, I really am. But with such an obvious lack of parking, I can't help thinking that old saying "white elephant" springs to mind.

Wouldn't it have been more cost-effective for Adur council to have maybe invested its money in the Shoreham Centre, which is so well-established and well-attended, rather than yet another establishment which will probably end up like the Fishers-gate Dome, with more tax payers' money down the drain?

Let's hope not.
