Welcome support

VERY welcome support for the suggested pedestrian/cycleway bridge over the railway at Mill Lane, Rustington, as part of the Sainsbury’s proposed redevelopment to double the store’s size (Gazette letters, April 19 and 26) has now been given by the Joint Eastern Arun Area Committee working group.

Meeting under the chairmanship of county councillor Dr James Walsh, the group has decided, because of the safety issues involved, to recommend that any planning permission should be subject to a contribution under a section 106 agreement.

Discussions are now proceeding with the county council’s strategic planning officer to reach agreement on the terms of this agreement. Arun District Council has been good enough to indicate that, in the event of planning permission being granted, an appropriate payment would be requested from Sainsbury’s.
