Train driver’s ordeal

ALTHOUGH the article (Gazette, January 12) on the man who was killed on the railway was very sad for those who knew him and highlighted the mental torment that he must have been going through, it would have been good to mention the condition of the train driver.

He or she has to go on and deal with this shock and upset in a different way, and may have to relive the incident over and over again in their own quiet moments.

I know only too well what they have to go through, as my husband is a driver and has had such incidents. They have to cope with sleeplessness, anger, frustration, upset, their own mental torment, and it’s their family who have to help them through this. The driver may not have been local, although there is a large depot at Barnham. My thoughts are for all drivers who have to go through this hell.
