Thirty years of dedicated nursing

Cathy, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday, said, “I will really miss the fantastic team I work with and our patients, many of whom I have got to know very well over the years.”

The hard working grandmother and mother of three from Dorking is looking forward to taking time out to spend more time with her family and two year old granddaughter.

Cathy started working at the hospital in 1985, before being promoted to ward manager over two decades ago.

Cathy’s innovative thinking and passion for providing the best possible care for her patients led to her establishing East Surrey Hospital’s first nurse led urology clinics.

Cathy has worked hard to develop a wide range of clinics including a service where patients who are known to staff in Cathy’s team can phone the ward if they need urgent treatment for their existing condition, rather than having to go to A&E.

Patients are greeted by a team they know well and this is reassuring for many patients and ensures continuity of care.

Cathy said, “I have seen a lot of changes over the past three decades but fundamentally the important things stay the same and that’s putting our patients first and making sure they receive the best care possible.”
