Teaching young high standards

I, TOO, think the students of the Littlehampton Academy look incredibly smart and grown up in their new uniforms.

Mr Williams, in his letter (Gazette, September 17), has unintentionally supported the cause for change when stating that the Fred Perry-style shirts were "stretchy" and "a jumper can be tied at the waist".

Education is not just about gaining academic qualifications, it also encompasses teaching young people standards and how to succeed in the wider community where competition is strong.

Much of the discontent among today's youth is caused by a lack of self-esteem, respect and moral standards.

Would you expect to see your bank manager with his jumper tied round his waist?

The Littlehampton Academy is striving to equip our young people for life in all its diverse realities and should be applauded for the high standards and expectations they are setting for their students.

Stretchy shirts and jumpers tied round the waist are just the thing for weekends and holidays!
