Small Dole enjoys 70th summer show

Despite the wet and windy weather earlier in the week, we were blessed with ideal conditions for the day enabling a large crowd to enjoy all the sideshows or sit with a piece of delicious cake and a cup of tea whilst listening to the Patcham Silver Band.

It was a great opportunity for friends to meet at this traditional family show. Dog owners enjoyed showing their pets in a Fun Dog Show which was very well supported.

The number and variety of stalls was the best for many years, enabling many local and national charities to raise much needed funds. Of particular interest to our visitors were the stands featuring family and village history plus illustrated information about the First World War.

To mark this years anniversary of 100 years since the beginning of WW1, some of the themes for exhibits related to the 1940s and The War Years.

A flower arrangement class ‘Lest we forget’ was very well supported - picture of the winning entry by Karen Trace is above. Also of great interest were the entries for the ‘Themed 1940s picnic for two’ which included Ration Books, Identity Cards, 1940s newspapers and some lovely vintage picnic ware with the winning entry pictured right.

Although the number of flower and vegetable entries were down on last year, the crafts,floral art, cookery and children’s classes were very well represented and the standards very high.
