No to parking on the Abbey Green

LYNN Scoones has again, as in her previous letters, alluded to the re-instatement of Battle Abbey Green as a parking area (Letters, 4/2/11).

When we came to Battle some years ago, there was parking on the Green. It was a gravelly area, complete with puddles.

The cars parked around the circumference with a few in the middle.

Access was self policing, and there was an overflow parking area in front of the Abbey. It was not free either.

Mr Webster, the then owner of the Abbey, or his agent used to be around to issue parking tickets.

The Green is now neat and tidy.

Whilst I can sympathise totally with Lynn Scoones regarding parking in Battle, to return to the old system, no thank you.
