Living in Hell

IN reply to Arun District Council’s comments about my complaints about them (Gazette, June 9), may I say to them that there are urine stains on the floor of the shower room, and dirty food stains on the kitchen walls.

There is black mould on the skirting boards and around the bottom of the walls in the area where I both live and sleep and I have shown both the shower room and the dirty kitchen and sleeping area to the police and my relatives and also to your photographer when he came and took the photo of myself.

The first two weeks I lived here I was far too preoccupied and stressed by the disgusting anti-social behavious of the youths who were continuously acting like thugs, and also my brother passing away, without my seeing him again.

As for saying I fell in love with this bedsit, I wanted to be here to be nearer my family and took little notice of what condition the property was in, especially as I was given very little time to view it.

I lived here in Hell for seven weeks and it is only this last week that I have had a full night’s sleep and no thugs smashing or banging on my windows. The wine and beer bottles continue to be smashed at the entrance to the property, but I’m sure one day Arun may get round to sorting that.

The sight of ripped-open black sacks is a real eyesore for visitors to the area. Where I recently lived in Norfolk, everyone is supplied with a black wheelie bin for household rubbish and a green bin for recycled goods, a much nicer sight than food and dirty packaging all over the pavement.
