LETTER: Traffic wardens will sort issue

I own a business in Bexhill: C. Wells & Sons shoe shop in Sackville Road.

The matter of parking in the town has been something I have campaigned about for a while now.

Myself and a couple of fellow traders, including Tony Bird of Birds Music, had a meeting a few months back with a number of councillors and local MP Huw Merriman, to discuss this very issue.

We put across our view that a traffic warden would solve the problem of people parking their cars all day, and parking on double yellows, and various other illegal manners of parking.

We have had customers complaining that they have to go round and round to find a space and if they are not lucky they drive away.

Parking meters are not the answer, we have two hours free parking in central Bexhill. A traffic warden in each town would by their very presence move traffic after these two hours free parking, and any fines they issue would pay their salary and more.

We were assured at this meeting that another meeting would be arranged to see what progress could be made, but we’ve heard nothing. There is no point to keep having meetings, action is what is needed.

If decriminalising is the only answer, then get on and do it. Times are difficult for small businesses in towns like Bexhill, Battle and Rye, solving the parking problem would go a long way to help.
