LETTER: Important victory for residents

Councillor Vickers’ ‘U-turn’ on refusing to hold a public meeting about the district Planning Preferred Strategy is long overdue.

After six months of public objections to being excluded from discussions by our representatives about our future, the cabinet have finally taken a step towards accepting they were wrong to avoid public meetings during the consultation.

This is a first but important victory for residents in the campaign against the destruction of our green belt, 15 per cent of which will be lost if this proposal goes ahead. Once development spills across the A264 what chance has Horsham of stopping the urban sprawl to Crawley?

I trust that councillors Dawe, Vickers, Croft and Rae and planning officers will widely publicise this meeting, attend and answer the questions from the public in an open and honest way, and ensure that the public’s comments are recorded as part of the consultation on this Preferred Strategy.

Residents want to see a genuine discussion that will be included in the record of public responses to this document.
