Battle Town Council was proud to take an active part in this year’s Armistice Day service.
On November 11 a very sombre and reflective service of remembrance was held at the roundabout at the north end of the High Street in Battle.

I would like to thank publicly, all those who were involved in this very special event: The Dean of Battle, the Very Reverend Canon John Edmondson who officiated over the service, children from Battle and Langton School and Battle Abbey School who paid their respects, the Head Boy and Head Girl of Claverham School (Harvey Hill and Hannah Crook) who read poems from the first World War and The Chamber Choir from Battle Abbey School who sung ‘In Flanders Field’.
The council is also grateful to the British Legion, Ministry of Defence, Battle Bonfire Boyes and the Women’s Institute who all contributed to making the service such a success.
It was a very a fitting and memorable day and well attended by many hundreds of local Battle residents and school children.
David Furness
Mayor of Battle
