Nearly always with a lamp swinging story, a very close shipmate is mentioned, inevitably with an ‘I wonder where Old Chalkie is now?

A local community radio, which also transmits on the worldwide web, is about to join in and find old shipmates.

With a programme devoted to tales and escapades linked to a missing shipmate and a piece of music of the time, we aim to get them together.

Angel Radio on the Isle of Wight transmits on 91.5FM to the Isle of Wight and part of Hampshire, but is also transmitting to the world on www.angelradioisleofwight.moonfruit.com

It’s a nostalgic radio station, and will appeal to anybody who enjoyed the music of the 1920s through to the 60s and we would like to transmit any ‘lamp swinging’ stories and reunite shipmates, wherever they are.

Email your story, with the name of the ‘oppo’ you are looking for, the ship or shore base and the dates to [email protected] or write to Mike Crowe, Angel Radio Sailors, 7 Heath Road, Sandown, Isle of Wight. PO36 8PG.
