It makes me sore

UNTIL December last year when she passed away, my mother was a long-term resident of Bexhill and I became a frequent visitor to the town and love its various eccentricities. I still come to Bexhill whenever I can.

I am concerned about the gap between the De La Warr pavilion’s current artistic pretensions and the preferences and tastes of many of the Bexhill public. I have therefore penned the following verse;

Your Eyesore

The De La Warr,

I am quite sure,

Has become a bore.

With art and more,

That I would deplore,

If a child of four,

Bought it to my door.

It makes me sore,

I could cry on the floor,

Our grand sea shore,

Must deserve much more

This abstract manure

Is complete ordure,

When will Rother work out the score?

So save us from these arty classes,

And bring Bexhill’s jewel back to the masses!
