Humbled by honour and a pleasure to serve

THROUGH your newspaper, I should like to put on public record my thanks to my fellow Littlehampton town councillors who elected me as deputy mayor for this civic year, 2010-11 at Thursday's annual town meeting.

I am most humbled and deeply appreciative of the fact that, apart from my colleague councillor Dr James Walsh, I am the only Liberal Democrat to have been so honoured.

I have a strong connection to the town having lived here mostly since March, 1963, and Littlehampton is my home town just as it is for the outgoing mayor, councillor Mark Butler, who is ever-smiling and hard-working, with such an outgoing personality too!

I offer commiserations to my defeated opponent, councillor Malcolm Belchamber, and congratulate the mayor, councillor Joyce Bowyer.

I wish Joyce all the best for her year and look forward to my role as the town's deputy mayor.
