Handcross Park pupil uses love of painting to raise funds for charity

Lily Stonehill from Brighton decided to host her own Brighton Open House art sale to raise money. It’s a charity close to Lily’s heart as her Grandmother has Alzheimer’s and Lily and her family look after her.

Lily worked hard to produce twenty-five canvases and invited all her friends and delivered leaflets locally inviting neighbours. The sale was topped off with cakes and tea and a prize draw was donated by the Brighton Wheel for a VIP champagne trip.

Lily’s Mum, Michelle Stonehill said, “Lily had a target of £350 but when it went up to £600 I was amazed. Sadly, this disease seems to affect so many peoples’ lives.” She added, “I am very proud of her for thinking of doing this, she is a really caring girl and helps her Nanny such a lot too.”

Lily, who wants to be a doctor, a hairdresser and an artist when she grows up, said, “I really hope there can be a cure for Alzheimer’s.”

It is estimated that there are currently 25 million people in the UK who have a close friend or family member with dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society not only supports sufferers and their carers but also invests into research for a cure.
